The Dallas Morning News Recognizes Ulterra among the Top 55 Medium Workplaces in Dallas-Fort Worth

6 November 2023

Recently, The Dallas Morning News and Medium Giant announced Ulterra was among the Top 55 Medium Workplaces in the Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) area – home to Ulterra’s largest manufacturing facility, Corporate headquarters, and their Dallas sales office.

The Top Workplaces are determined exclusively by feedback captured from employees participating in Energage’s Employee Engagement Survey, an anonymous and confidential survey that measures key culture drivers.

In 2023, a record-breaking number of nearly 6,000 companies distributed this survey to more than 166,000 employees.

During May, Ulterra distributed this survey to all 600 employees to measure current engagement levels and identify areas of improvement within the organization. Far exceeding the annual average survey response rate of 47.45%, almost 80% of people at Ulterra responded.

The top results identified that employees feel Ulterra operates with:

  1. Genuine Employee Appreciation
  2. Informed Leadership
  3. Effective Execution

Out of the participating companies, Ulterra ranked in the top 55 for medium-sized companies in the DFW area. Results are determined by comparing how employees rank factors such as leadership, culture, and employee appreciation, against industry benchmarks.

“These results reiterate what makes Ulterra different — our people take pride in what they do and are passionate about the company we’ve created over the years. This includes taking pride in improving different aspects of Ulterra.”

Said John Clunan, President at Ulterra.

Using aggregated survey results and anonymous comments, Ulterra’s Human Resources team worked closely with managers to further reveal areas of improvement. Through a series of meetings and one-on-one development between HR and employees, and HR and managers, they gained a better understanding of team dynamics. This allowed them to identify areas of improvement, including leaders being more intentional about listening and responding to employee feedback.  This has led to higher levels of engagement and increased understanding between managers and their direct employees. Beyond employee engagement initiatives, physical changes have been made to improve Ulterra, including the most recent remodel of their Fort Worth Repair facility.
