An operator in DeSoto Parish, Louisiana wanted to improve 9.875″ drillout performance, targeting depths out of more than 8,000 ft.

Challenges

  • Increase frequency of reaching pull point (past 8,000 ft.)
  • Reduce frequency of catastrophic dulls caused by drill bit over-engagement

Solution

Collaborating with the customer, our team recommended adding a Mitigator™ to the BHA to reduce torsional shock in the BHA to improve drilling dynamics.

Results

Across six runs with the Mitigator, this operator:

  • Increased ROP by 17%
  • Saved a total of 21 hours
  • Improved outer dull conditions from 3.7 (standard BHA) to 3.2 (with Mitigator)
  • Increased average footage drilled from 7,734 ft. (standard BHA) to 8,082 ft (with Mitigator)
